NOTE: If you are an existing subscriber via desktop web, we currently do NOT have the capability to upgrade an existing subscription to the Family Plan. You will need to cancel your existing individual subscription and subscribe when it expires.
If you are an iOS or Android subscriber, please follow instructions below.
Apple/iOS instructions:
You can upgrade your subscription from your individual package to the Family Plan. Once upgraded, you will be charged immediately for the Family Plan, and then Apple will process a prorated refund based on the remainder of your individual subscription. Please follow these steps:
- Open Duolingo app on your iOS device
- Tap Profile tab
- Tap Settings (far-right)
- Scroll to the Super Duolingo section and tap "Manage Subscription"
- Tap 'Change Plan'
- Select ‘Family Plan' package and confirm by tapping 'Switch to Family Plan' button
- Confirm purchase via Apple. The upgrade should take effect immediately.
Once you successfully upgrade to the Family Plan, you can manage the Family Plan by tapping the Super icon in the app and then tap “Manage Family”. The renewal date will be adjusted to the date of the upgrade.
NOTE: If you are currently subscribed to Super but have canceled the renewal, you will not see this option to upgrade. In the iOS app tap ‘Keep my Subscription’ and hard close/reopen the app. Then you can follow the above steps to upgrade your current subscription to Family Plan.
Google Play/Android instructions:
You can upgrade your subscription from your individual package to the Family Plan, if you are currently subscribed to the annual individual plan. Please note that you will be charged immediately to upgrade the remaining billing period in your current subscription to the Family Plan and will receive access to Family Plan features immediately.
The amount charged will be the difference between the price of Family Plan for the remaining billing period and the amount your current individual plan costs for the remaining billing period.
- Open Duolingo app on your Android device
- Tap Profile tab
- Tap Settings (far-right)
- Scroll to the Super Duolingo section and tap "Manage Subscription"
- Tap 'Change Plan'
- Select ‘Family Plan' package and confirm by tapping 'Switch to Family Plan' button
- Confirm purchase via Google Play. The upgrade should take effect immediately.
The renewal date will be based on the original time you subscribed to the individual subscription.
NOTE: If you are currently subscribed to Super but have cancelled the renewal, you will not see this option to upgrade. In the Android app, go to the settings and tap ‘Manage Subscription’. You should see a banner with a button that says ‘Keep My Subscription’. Tap that button and confirm in Google Play. Then you can follow the above steps to upgrade your current subscription to Family Plan.
I'm not seeing an option to upgrade my existing subscription. Why?
If you're NOT seeing an option to upgrade an existing subscription, please check for the following:
- Your subscription is set to expire. Only subscriptions set to renew are eligible for upgrading to Family Plan.
- You originally subscribed via web. Currently, only iOS and Android subscribers can upgrade.
- You are NOT in a classroom. If you are in a classroom, you are not eligible for Super promotions. Please leave the classroom. Instructions here.
- [Android only] Monthly subscriptions are NOT eligible to upgrade for Family Plan at this time.
